Pedagogy class (4th week)
Pedagogy lesson for this week is about learning styles. Learning styles means reasonably stable patterns of behaviour that indicate learning preferences. There are four types of learning styles, which are cooperative learning, discovery learning, constructivism and direct instruction system. Cooperative learning (CL) means a successful teaching strategy with small teams and each of the students have different level of ability so they will work together. Discovery learning (DL) means students finding or figuring out things by themselves whereas constructivism means the teaching and learning process that intends to maximize students understanding. There are four founder of constructivism, namely John Dewey, Jean Piaget, Maria Montessori and Lev Vygotsky. Direct instruction system (DISTAR) is based on learning theories with concept of No Child Left Behind. This system makes sure the students learn until they really understand what they learn, no matter how slow and how many things need to be done for them to understand. Learning consist of five elements, which are knowledge, behaviour, skills, values or preferences and synthesizing different types of information whereas learning styles have four dimensions: cognitive, affective, physiological and psychological. The five elements of learning will be more effective if the flow are as follow:
Positive interdependence ⇨ face to face interaction ⇨ individual and group accountability
⇩
interpersonal and small group skills
⇩
group processing
These are the lesson for this week. For the coming week will be the practice for lesson plan and we need to download a syllabus of any high school subjects.

Based on the learning styles above, which one is your favorite learning style and why?
ReplyDeleteBased on the four learning styles, I prefer Cooperative Learning (CL) because students work together and guide each other, so they will be able to find out their weaknesses and strengths.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever went through Discovery Learning before? And what did you discover about?
ReplyDeleteYes, during my thesis report for my diploma. The subject is Biology, and I found out that there are a lot of component in water, such as the chemical composition, biological oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, level of turbidity and many more.
DeleteI prefer cooperative learning because students would learn how to work in group and do discussion with each other. It helps students to gain more experience and skills.
ReplyDeleteI agree. They are able to guide each other too.
